The IBM System Storage TS2250 Tape Drive Express—the entry-level IBM System Storage tape product family offering—is the answer to growing storage requirements. Incorporating the latest generation of the industry-leading Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology, the TS2250 Tape Drive is suited for handling backup, save and restore, and archival data storage needs with higher capacity and higher data transfer rate than previous generation. In addition, the IBM Ultrium 5 technology is designed to support media partitioning, and the new IBM Linear Tape File System(tm) technology. It also continues to support encryption of data and WORM media.

The IBM System Storage TS2250 Tape Drive is an excellent tape storage solution for businesses requiring backup and low-cost, archivalstorage of their data. The TS2250, with a half height form factor,offers more capacity than the full height LTO 4 tape drive in less space. The TS2250 provides a physical storage capacity of upto 3.0TB (with 2:1 compression) in conjunction with the newIBMUltrium 1.5TB data cartridge, nearly double of thecapacity of previous Ultrium 4 cartridges. The data transferperformance of the TS2250 Tape Drive has increased overthe previous LTO half height generation with a transfer rateof up to 140MBps with 6 Gbps SAS interface connectivity. Italso now offers two SAS and one Ethernet port per drive to improve availability.

The IBM System Storage TS2250 Tape Drive features 6 Gbps SAS interface for connection to a wide spectrum ofopen system servers. The TS2250 is designed to address yourbackup and restore needs. The LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Media provides partitioning support, which, in conjunction with IBM Linear Tape File System technology, provides customersthe ability to have file-level access to tape data. This new support helps quickly locate and update information on thetape media.  The IBM Ultrium 5 technology is also designed to supportencryption of data. The hardware encryption and decryptioncore and control core resides in the IBM Ultrium 5 tapedrive. In addition to reading and writing to Ultrium 5 tapecartridges, the TS2250 can read and write to Ultrium 4 cartridges and read Ultrium 3 cartridges.
