LTO-8 Availability Alert | LTO-8 Media Shortage
There is a current supply shortage of LTO-8 media in the United States. The LTO consortium members
(Quantum, IBM and HPE), are working closely with LTO media manufacturers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, but we do not have a resolution date yet.
In the interim, you have two options/alternatives for use in your LTO-8
Devices.
- LTO-7: Media has an uncompressed storage capacity of 6TB and a compressed capacity of up to 15TB.
- LTO-7 Type M: media is a new LTO-7 tape with an
"M8" label—when initialized it can hold up to 9TB native capacity. Representing the lowest cost per TB option available for use with LTO-8 drives, it's the best alternative for your customers.*
* Note: LTO-7 Type M is only compatible on LTO-8 Tape
Libraries, and not standalone drives. In addition, You will not be able to
read LTO-7 Type M media in future generation Drives - LTO-9, LTO-10 etc.....
