The Qualstar Q40 scalable tape library is designed to be Simply Reliable, providing superior performance and scalability for short-term backup, disaster recovery, and long-term archiving requirements. The Q40 system offers scaling from 40 to 640 cartridge slots, and from 1 to 48 tape drives. The Q40 utilizes LTO-7, LTO-8, LTO-9 or LTO-10 tapedrives, with each 3U Q40 base library module delivering up to 1.2 petabytes (LTO-10, native) or up to 3.0 petabytes (LTO-10, compressed) of storage capacity. The Q40 base unit may be expanded with up to fifteen expansion modules, creating a single library system with as much as 48 petabytes (LTO-10 compressed) storage capacity in a single 48U rack. The Q40 uses a single robot to service all drives and media, maximizing cost effectiveness..

The user control panel employs an intuitive GUI and setup wizards to make the system easy to configure and operate. An integrated browser-based remote management interface (RMI) enables IT administrators to remotely configure, manage, and diagnose the library from anywhere in the world.
