Imation RDX Media Secure - FAQ's
Will the cartridge work in my existing RDX dock?
Yes. RDX Media Secure will work with any direct attach RDX docking station. This includes SATA, USB 2.0
and USB 3.0 internal and external docking stations.
Will RDX Media Secure work with my Mac OS?
RDX Media Secure is currently only supported to work with Windows operating systems.
Will RDX Media Secure work with my Linux OS?
RDX Media Secure is currently only supported to work with Windows operating systems.
Does RDX Media Secure work with my A8 and DataGuard T5R?
RDX Media Secure is currently not supported to work with Network Attached Devices like the A8
and DataGuard. Imation DataGuard appliances already have encryption features built in.
How does someone else access the data on my RDX Media Secure cartridge?
Anyone using RDX Media Secure for the first time will need to install the software from the cartridge onto
their workstation or server to encrypt or access encrypted data. The primary user’s password will need to
be shared with other users if they need to access encrypted data.
Will the cartridge work without loading the encryption software?
If you do not load the encryption software RDX Media Secure will work the same as a standard RDX
cartridge. Data will not be encrypted.
Do I need to load the encryption software every time I use the cartridge?
No. Once the software is installed on a workstation or server, all subsequent uses of the media will encrypt
data automatically.
Does the cartridge meet FIPS level certifications?
Yes. RDX Media Secure is FIPS 140-2, Level 1 Validated Certification #347, 562, 819.
How do I permanently erase data from the cartridge?
Please refer to the User Guide for instructions on how to enable the cryptographic erase function on your
RDX Media Secure cartridge.
Can I retrieve data if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, you can retrieve it by answering a security question. Security questions and
answers should be set up when you set up your encryption password.
Can I still use the cartridge if I forget my password and security question?
Any encrypted data that was stored previously on the cartridge will not be accessible without a password.
Users have the option to reformat their RDX Media Secure cartridge and reset their password and security
question. Reformatting will erase any data stored previously on the cartridge.
Does the cartridge have a non-secure partition if I want to have public and private
data on the same cartridge?
No. All data saved to RDX Media Secure will be encrypted unless it is used on a workstation or server that
does not have RDX Media Secure software installed./span>
