HP RDX Continuous Data Protection Software Release Notes
This document outlines the details of this update to the HP RDX Continuous
Data Protection (CDP) Backup Software.
Update recommendation:
Update to receive a new user interface with
additional functionality, including scheduled back-ups, ability to create
recovery media (to perform a full system restore), and to easily receive further
HP RDX CDP software updates.
NOTE: This
version of HP RDX Continuous Data Protection Software (6.1.910.14366 or later)
is not compatible with earlier versions of HP RDX Continuous Data Protection
software (3.0.512.13908, or earlier). For additional information, see “Software
compatibility”.
Supersedes:
Build 3.0.512.13908 and all previous versions.
NOTE:
HP recommends uninstalling CDP software Build 3.0.512.13908 or earlier versions
before installing this updated version.
NOTE: This version of CDP
software cannot be used to restore back up data from Build 3.0.512.13908 or
earlier versions.

Fixes
The HP RDX CDP software has been updated to provide a new user
interface with additional functionality:
• Scheduled back-ups and individual
folder selection (in addition to Full System Protection).
• Ability to create
recovery media (to perform a full system restore).
• Ability to check if
further CDP software updates are available.
Issues and restrictions
• The HP CDP software will work with HP RDX docks only.
•
When running Full System Recovery with the HP B-series storage controllers,
configured RAID volumes are not recognized. The individual drives are presented
as recovery targets rather than the RAID volume.
• With the B120i you can
perform a full system recovery on systems configured with a single hard drive.
• The B320i is not currently supported in RAID or single drive configurations.
Prerequisites
The following are required:
• USB 2.0 or 3.0 compliant
hardware
• HP RDX dock
• HP RDX Utility 2.32 (HP RDX Tools 1.54) or later
NOTE: Verify that the latest HP RDX Utility is installed. The HP RDX Utility
version 2.32 (equivalent
to HP RDX Tools 1.54) or later may be downloaded at
http://www.hp.com/support/rdx.
Software compatibility
This version of HP
RDX Continuous Data Protection Software (6.1.910.14366 or later) is not
compatible with earlier versions of HP RDX Continuous Data Protection
software (3.0.512.13908, or earlier).
• Backups created with older versions
of the HP RDX Continuous Data Protection Software (3.0.512.13908, or
earlier), can only be restored using the equivalent version of software
(3.0.512.13908, or earlier). These backups cannot be restored with version
6.1.910.14366 or later builds.
• Backups created with this updated version
of HP RDX Continuous Data Protection Software (6.1.910.14366 or later), can
only be restored using the equivalent latest version (6.1.910.14366 or
later). These backups cannot be restored with version 3.0.512.13908 or earlier
builds.
NOTE: Before upgrading the HP RDX Continuous Data Protection
Software, HP recommends archiving at least one cartridge that includes a
recent restore point. This ensures that a full system backup is still
available until the upgrade process has completed and a new restore point
created. Any other "used" cartridges can be reformatted with the Windows
format utility (NTFS file system).
Installation instructions
Double click
the HP RDX Continuous Data Protection Setup file (the file name contains
"hp-rdx-setup" and a build number) to begin the installation process. The
install requires the creation of a Licensing Account.
1. Enter a valid
e-mail address, password and password confirmation.
2. Accept the Terms of
Service.
3. Click the Create
Account button.

(available from www.hp.com/support/rdx).
NOTE: Creation of the first Recovery
Point can take hours or days depending on the amount of data on the computer.
Subsequent recovery points will be completed much faster since they only include
changes since the previous recovery point.
