NETGEAR Broadens ReadyNAS SMB Storage Line
with New Rack-Mount System ReadyNAS 2100
NETGEAR’s ReadyNAS 2100 and ReadyNAS Remote
Secure Access Capability Offer Businesses High-Performance, Flexible, Affordable
and Easy to Manage Network Storage
NETGEAR®, Inc. a worldwide provider of
technologically innovative, branded networking solutions, today announced the
addition of rack-mount Unified Network Storage appliances and secure remote
access to its award-winning family of
ReadyNAS® products for Small- to Medium-sized
Businesses (SMBs). The ReadyNAS 2100 is a high-quality yet affordable 1U 4-bay
storage system that enables SMBs to securely share, store and protect
business-critical files across a LAN or WAN, guard against disk failures, and
grow capacity as needed. The ultra-compact ReadyNAS 2100 has enterprise-grade
hard drives and Error Correction Code (ECC) RAM for higher reliability, as well
as Intel® Architecture for two times the performance of the previous ReadyNAS
1100 product. Compared to competitive 1U products, the shallow form factor
enables a 100 percent increase in rack density through back-to-back mounting in
a four-post datacenter rack.
“Combined with our existing
ReadyNAS Pro and
ReadyNAS NVX, the addition of a rack-mount
solution broadens the SMB portion of our award-winning ReadyNAS storage line,”
said Mark Song, product line manager for NETGEAR’s Network Storage Business
Unit. “We’re dedicated to providing a complete range of solutions for the SMB,
and we’re extremely proud that our ReadyNAS unified architecture solves numerous
data management problems with a single system, making capacity management,
access, backup, restore and disaster recovery worries obsolete. With ReadyNAS,
SMB network managers can eliminate common data concerns and revolutionize their
storage environment without needing to become an expert.”
Ideal for small businesses and workgroups, the
ReadyNAS 2100 provides all of the features and benefits of the recently launched
ReadyNAS NVX 4-bay desktop model for sharing,
storing and protecting SMB data, but in a convenient rack-mountable 1U form
factor. Its innovative modular design - the “X-CHANGE” rapid system board
module, with the system board, power supply and cooling fans packaged into a
discrete module - and remarkable 12-inch depth make it ideal for easy servicing,
and facilitate back-to-back physical arrangements. Users of the ReadyNAS 2100
also benefit from energy efficiency; the device has an Intel advanced embedded
processor as well as smart power management options, such as sequential drive
spin-up and idle drive spin-down, which reduce overall power consumption to less
than 80 watts.
Store: The ReadyNAS 2100 now
enables businesses and channel partners requiring a rack-mount form factor to
build solutions using the most current
ReadyNAS technology. Backup and recovery in
mixed client environments, entry-level server and desktop virtualization, and
simple cross-platform file sharing can all be leveraged on one single storage
platform. Even large enterprise customers can meet extreme affordability
requirements for compliance or remote office concerns.
Share: ReadyNAS 2100 offers
support for file services (NAS) and application services (iSCSI) for Windows®,
UNIX®/Linux and Mac® systems. The ReadyNAS RAIDiator™ operating system supports
the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), enabling native Mac files to be used without
restrictions or limitations, as well as Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard.
New in the ReadyNAS 2100, the ReadyNAS Remote™
feature, available on all ReadyNAS systems, enables users to simply
drag-and-drop files over a secure connection between any Windows or Mac computer
and their ReadyNAS, from anywhere in the world, eliminating firewall
configuration, VPNs and awkward web-based remote access solutions.
Protect: NETGEAR’s ReadyNAS
2100 is one of the most versatile and effective backup to disk options on the
market, providing standard Continuous Data Protection (CDP) software as well as
the ReadyNAS Vault™ embedded cloud backup service for archive and disaster
recovery. ReadyNAS Vault automatically moves multiple archive copies to an
Internet datacenter, which can be recovered from any web browser in case of
disaster. Mac users can leverage Time Machine to back up multiple Macs to a
single location and recover from disasters without expert assistance.
“The ReadyNAS 2100 is just what we’ve been
looking for,” said Matt Rogish, CTO at the J. Peterman Company, a leading
lifestyle brand that delivers apparel and home furnishings through catalogs,
retail and the Internet. “It has the performance to support our virtual machine
farm, and I especially like the affordability of the X-Change module. It helps
us stretch our budget by offloading from our more expensive equipment and
freeing it up for other uses. My past experience with ReadyNAS products has been
very positive, so this is an obvious next step.”
The ReadyNAS 2100 - with 2TB and 4TB of storage
- will be available in early June from value-added resellers at an estimated
U.S. street price starting at $1,899. A model with 8TB of storage will be
available later in 2009. ReadyNAS Remote comes automatically with all new
ReadyNAS systems. ReadyNAS Vault is included as a 30-day trial of pre-paid and
annual capacity plans. ReadyNAS systems come with full 24/7 technical support
and an industry-leading five-year warranty.
