XenData Media Portal now Available
Media Portal is a software extension to a XenData LTO or cloud system which adds a web interface that allows you to view previews of your stored video and image files. It also allows you to browse, search and download files. The video below gives a three-minute overview.
Adding media portal to a XenData storage system takes you from a file folder view
of the content as shown here to an interface
that provides previews of your video and image files.
This is very useful if you are saving your content
to LTO Data tape
or an inaccessible cloud storage tier, like AWS Glacier,
where it will take at least a few minutes
to access your original files.
The media portal allows the user to easily play the preview
to know what they have before initiating restores.
And it is especially useful
for content stored in very inaccessible cloud storage tiers
like Deep Glacier, which take many hours to hydrate
to an accessible storage tier.
You can browse the file folder structure
or search by the file and path name.
And if a user has been given download permission, he
or she can download the original file.
Media portal can be added to new
and existing zenata systems, including LTO archives.
E-Series object storage
and cloud file gateways Media portal can be easily
configured for multi-tenant use.
This means that the XenData file folder structure can be
partitioned and each partition can be allocated
to a different user group. It can be useful for an organization with multiple customers
who need access to their own files.
For example, you might configure 10 different folders within
the Xen Data file folder structure,
and allocate each to a different customer.
Each has its own web address and own administrator,
and of course, each customer can only see their own files.
Whether configured for multi-tenant or single-tenant use
or file system can be accessed simultaneously in multiple
ways, including as a network share
and via the XenData S3 private cloud interface, as well
as via the media portal interface.
In summary, media Portal adds a web interface
to your XenData storage system that provides previews
of video and image files.
The storage file system can be browsed
and searched based on file and path names.
Media portal can be added to XenData LTO on premises disc
and cloud systems, and can be used simultaneously
with on Premises network
and remote S3 object storage access.
When configured for multi-tenant use,
the storage system is partitioned for access
by different user groups.
It allows users to preview their content before downloading.
