XenData - Migrate to LTO-9
Legacy archives with LTO cartridges are expensive to run and will need to be migrated sooner or later.
Xendata support migration from LTFS archives, such as those from Storage DNA and SGL, and several proprietary LTO formats including from DIVA, Active Circle, Atempo and Cache-A.
Transcript:
You have an old archive
with LTO tapes written in a legacy format, which is difficult to use and
expensive to support.
You want to migrate to a modern LTO archive system
using LTFS. The interchange standard examples include migrations from atempo,
diva, active circle, and Cache A.
These are the steps used by
Xendata.
To migrate away from a legacy format, install your new
Xendata LTO archive system and immediately start writing new content to the
latest generation
of LTO
cartridges using the standard LTFS format, if needed, add a physical LTO library
or library partition capable of reading the old legacy tapes.
Use the XenData Legacy format software module to
automatically scan the old tapes in background to create a catalog of the
contents of each tape.
Publish the contents of the legacy tapes to the Xendata file system. This only
takes a few seconds. Now the legacy content is available to be restored.
Optionally, migrate the
contents of the legacy tapes to the latest generation of LTO cartridges using
the LTFS format
if
needed, automatically create replica LTFS tapes for added data protection. This
migration uses the Xendata repack utility, which may be scheduled to run
automatically in background.
Your content is now securely
stored on a Xenata archive with reasonable support costs.
The latest generation of LTO using the widely used
LTFS format.
